The Corporate Trap

If you’ve followed the traditional path: college, corporate job, climbing the ladder… you probably relate to the term “The Corporate Trap.”

The corporate world promised stability and success, but instead, you feel unappreciated, undervalued, and stuck.

It’s left you desiring more – more respect, purpose, and fulfillment.

Think of it like being a talented chef forced to follow a bland, uninspired recipe day after day. Your creativity and passion are stifled, and you’re left feeling inadequate.

Every day, you go to a job where your talents are overlooked. You watch others progress while you’re left behind.

This lack of appreciation not only affects your career, but also your self-esteem and happiness.

It’s frustrating to know you have so much more to offer, yet you’re stuck in a role that doesn’t recognize your true potential.

Could you imagine spending the next decade in the same uninspiring job, wondering ‘What if?’ while your dream life fades away?

I can’t.

That’s why I want to talk about the 1-person business model.

Transforming your knowledge into a 1-person business

If you’re wondering how in the world this is possible, it’s actually much simpler than it seems.

Let me explain.

There are two paths to transform your knowledge into a 1-person business:

1. Skill-Based

2. System-Based

Skill-Based Business

• Develop a skill > Productize your skill > Sell your skill

What do you do in your corporate job that is a specialized function that others would pay you for?

Identify your superpower (your 1 thing) or the skill you’re an expert in and productize that skill.

If you productize that skill with an irresistible offer, you can now sell your offer to other businesses.

A skill-based business solves a specific problem for a specific customer. Freelancing and consulting are skill-based businesses.

The skills you package up and sell could be email marketing, landing page design, web development, etc. You name it.

A skill-based business has its pros and cons:

Pros:

• Monetize almost immediately

• Productize a skill you’re already an expert in

• Gain entrepreneurial experience and build your network

Cons:

• Hard to scale

• Trading your time for money

• Instead of answering to 1 boss, you’re now answering to 3, 5, 7 bosses (aka your clients)

Because of these cons, I prefer a system-based business.

System-Based Business

• Goals > Problems > Solutions > Systems > Benefits

If you’re a lifelong learner, exude curiosity, and strive for continued personal development and self-improvement, the system-based path is for you.

A system-based business is when YOU are the business. YOUR story is the business’s story.

As a self-improver, you have identified what you want out of life (if you haven’t identified what you want, identify what you don’t want) and set goals to get there.

What problems are standing in your way of reaching those goals?

Solve those problems by researching your curiosities and learning how to overcome them.

Document your solution and create a system to help others do the same (this is your product).

Market the benefits of your system with an irresistible offer.

Make sense?

In simpler terms, pursue a goal, solve your own problems in the way of your goal, and teach others how you did it. That’s your 1-person business.

This business model helps you be yourself, improve yourself, and profit off yourself—without anybody getting in your way.

Let me give you an example using Mark From Marketing.

• My Goals - Make $1M in the next 3 years & be in control of: a) what I work on, b) who I work with, c) where I work, d) when I work

• My Problems - Stuck in the corporate trap, feeling unfulfilled and lacking purpose
