What makes you confident?
How challenging yourself builds self-confidence.

It’s Sunday morning, you’re sitting on your couch, drinking a cup of joe.
You’re going through your Sunday morning routine - checking Instagram to fulfill your FOMO addiction - and today’s Mark From Marketing Letter comes through.
The subject line reads…
What makes you confident?
You think to yourself, “Why the fuck is Mark From Marketing asking about my confidence?”
But you open it anyway…
Pause right there.
Let’s circle back to what I mean when I ask, “What makes you confident?”
Unsure?
It’s kind of like high school sports.
I bet you remember who the quarterback on your high school football team was.
I’m also willing to bet he was a popular and confident kid. (No? Well, you get the point.)
Let’s think about what made Mr. QB so confident:
He was the leader of a competitive team
Playing the most important position
On the most popular sports team in school
He garnered purpose and respect through his responsibilities.
Ya, it could’ve been his ego…
But his position of power made him confident.
The good news is, it’s no longer high school.
The other good news, this analogy is one you can implement into any aspect of your life.
It’s time to be your own quarterback.
Think of it this way…
The quarterback is the CEO.
The CEO decides the direction of your company.
The CEO decides your job responsibilities and the projects you work on.
The CEO decides whether you keep your job or not.
And if you were in the board room when the CEO was making those decisions, I bet you’d disagree with him quite often.
Now…
How many times have you felt angered, disrespected, or unappreciated by your CEO?
Or by the responsibilities you’re tasked with and the projects you work on?
Well, guess what…
You can escape those feelings by being the CEO of your life.
What does this have to do with confidence?
Finding what drives you will build your confidence and change your perspective on the world.
For the quarterback and CEO… it’s their position of power and their unwavering commitment to winning.
For me, I’m fueled by 3 things:
Fitness
Positivity
Purpose
And building the Mark From Marketing brand to be able to serve YOU gives me a great deal of purpose.
What are you fueled by?
Confidence is built by overcoming challenges.
Without any challenges in your life (like working for that unappreciative CEO), you stay stagnant.
Stagnation is the opposition to progress.
And as human beings, we seek progress.
The quarterback and CEO are challenged by the pressure to perform at a high level and lead their teams to victory.
So how are you challenging yourself?
An unconventional path to building self-confidence.
Start a business.
What does the life of your dreams look like?
What is it comprised of?
Starting each day on your terms, no alarm, ritualizing in an early sunrise walk on the beach.
Family vacations. Kids sports games. Happiness. Not a worry in the world.
Hard work. Growth. Building an empire. No financial stress. Fulfillment.
Whatever your dream life looks like…you won’t get there by continuing to help others pursue their dreams.
You must work to pursue your own dreams.
And if you want to build the life of your dreams, you have no option other than starting a business.
Why…?
A business is an extension of yourself.
A business is the vehicle that drives you down the road to your dream life.
So, where do you even start?
Build a routine.
A routine will make you disciplined.
It will force you to set goals, stay focused, and work hard towards achieving the visionary dream life you have for yourself.
I’ve found the less mundane decisions I have to make daily, the better. That’s why I love a good ol’ routine.
When you:
Wake up early
Set goals
Workout
Focus
Grind
You build self-confidence.
And when you practice these principles daily, the compounding effect of self-confidence will make you unstoppable and propel you toward your dream life.
My Challenge to You.
Take out a pen and paper and write down the answers to these questions.
What does your dream life look like?
How much money do you need annually to live your dream life?
What are your emotional must-haves in a job? (Things like purpose, fulfillment, feels like play not work, etc.)
Are you there already? How do you know?
If things go perfectly (such as promotions and climbing the corporate ladder), are you confident you will be there in 10 years? How do you know?
What three things are you fueled by?
What’s your superpower? What are you most talented at?
Be as specific as possible in your answers. Reflect on your current situation and be genuine and honest with yourself.
Now, if you’re not there already (which, as a dreamer, should be every one of you) think deeply about what type of business can be an extension of yourself.
Visualize how you can combine your dreams, emotions, and talents into a business idea.
Now do you understand why I mentioned that “if you want to build the life of your dreams, you have no option other than starting a business?”
So what comes next?
It’s a great first step if you’re able to visualize a business idea from this exercise. But that’s the easy part.
I heard a quote the other day from Mohnish Pabrai that went a little something like, “An idea is like an asshole. Everyone has one. Ideas don’t mean anything. It’s really execution on the idea that has value.”
(I got a kick out of this analogy.)
Pabrai is known as the Indian Warren Buffet, with a net worth of nearly $2 billion.
He couldn’t be more accurate. Executing is where the value is.
So unless you PERSONALLY know how to:
Identify and solve complex business problems
Turn an idea into a cash-flowing business
You’re going to waste a lot of time feeling lost.
When you COULD be making money from your idea.
And you COULD be building self-confidence the unconventional way (like I did).
Every day you aren’t making progress is another day you COULD be living the life of your dreams.
That’s where I can help…
