7 copywriting secrets that demand attention

Why attention is your most undervalued asset and how to capture it

In a world where your next customer is just a swipe away, attention isn’t just valuable—it’s everything.

Attention is the number one asset for marketers and entrepreneurs.

Not money. Not time. Not a product. But attention.

It’s no secret that in today’s social media world, we’re glued to our phones. Our attention, scattered.

Think about your typical day.

  • Your boss is asking you to work on another mundane project.

  • You’re feeling overwhelmed and unappreciated.

  • Your to-do list is longer than ever.

So you escape to social media.

We’ve all had those “WTF” moments when we sit down and open Instagram, see something interesting, and the next thing we know 4 hours have passed. Your attention glued to a creator’s feed.

But what content stood out to you?

You swiped past hundreds of posts, but something about this post stopped you in your tracks.

Unless you’re scrolling with your marketing glasses on, you probably didn’t realize how that creator gained your attention.

That’s what I’m sharing today. Attention.

7 copywriting secrets to how marketers and value creators force you to pay attention to what they have to say.

Why copywriting is the key to attention.

There’s a type of copywriting called direct response copywriting.

This is a type of persuasive writing that aims to get the reader to take immediate action.

The best marketers utilize some form of direct response copywriting.

They tell a story, use analogies, and take you down an emotional journey that by the end, you’re convinced to take action.

So how did their copywriting gain and keep your attention?

By using these 7 secrets…

1. Hook with the problem, sell with the pain.

We’re all looking for solutions to our problems.

When you hear someone talk about the problem you’re facing, you stop and listen. You’re hooked.

But you may not pay attention for long if they get straight into the solution. Why?

Because your emotional connection wasn’t triggered.

The problem you’re facing is causing a pain point in your life. The pain evokes emotions of fear, safety, or stress. If you’re reminded of your pain and it triggers an emotional connection, you’re sold.

2. Confidence and conviction.

Nobody will listen to you if you don’t speak confidently and with conviction. Practice what you preach and you’ll be more confident in preaching it.

3. Story > Lecture.

A good book or movie always has an emotional story. Don’t underestimate the impact of storytelling. Stop lecturing and start sharing emotional stories.

4. Analogies bring your writing to life.

They allow you to explain or clarify your story.

Some ways to use analogies in your writing include:

  • “Think of it this way…”

  • “You know when…”

  • “It’s kind of like…”

5. Speak to one specific person and spend 90% of your time in their world.

People will pay attention when you’re speaking directly to them and talking about their specific problems, pains, and desires.

90% of your time should be spent in their world, with only 10% of your time spent talking about your product or service.

6. Use social proof.

People are much more likely to pay attention when they see others have paid attention.

That’s why social proof such as testimonials, case studies, screenshots, and success stories work so well in attracting attention.

Use them everywhere.

7. Always give a reason why.

It’s never good enough to just write about a topic.

You must always ask yourself, “Why the fuck should anybody care about this?”

So why should you care about these 7 copywriting secrets?

Well, if you’re like me and have realized what you signed up for by following the system (college, job, corporate ladder) isn’t what it was cracked out to be.
